As expected, Xiaomi has unveiled its ‘Made in India’ handset, the Redmi 2 Prime, for a price of Rs. 6,999. The device has been manufactured at Xiaomi’s unit in Vishakhapatnam, and was announced at an event today, by the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu.
The Redmi 2 Prime can be purchased at a price tag of Rs. 5,999 through Xiaomi’s online retail store, Mi.com, and can also be bought via other partners such as Flipkart, Snapdeal, and Amazon.
Now coming on to Prime’s specifications, it comes with a 4.7-inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels, and is powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC (MSM8916) paired with 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage, further expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. The smartphone runs Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top, and sports an 8-megapixel camera on the rear with LED flash, along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It is dual-SIM device, with connectivity options such as 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB OTG, and GPS. The phone is backed by a 2,200mAh battery, and will be available in White and Dark Grey color variants.
