NOKIA Recalls 14 Million Faulty ChargersWorld’s leading mobile phone maker Nokia has announced that its 14 million mobile phone chargers could be dangerous for users and said it initiated a charger exchange program to replace them free of charge.

The Nokia-branded chargers manufactured by a third party supplier and the company have determined that the plastic covers of the affected chargers could come loose and separate, exposing the charger’s internal components and potentially posing an electric shock hazard if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket.




The affected chargers are those manufactured by BYD between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009 and with the following model types AC -3U, AC-3E and those manufactured by BYD between 13th April, 2009 and 25th October, 2009 and with the following model type AC-4U.

In India, this charger exchange program is limited to charger model AC-3E only manufactured between 15th June to 9th August, 2009, for one particular Nokia mobile phone the Nokia 7210. This does not impact the usage or safety of the Nokia phone in any manner. The chargers, bearing Nokia's name and made by Chinese battery and auto part maker BYD Co.

According to the Nokia, The Company is not aware of any incidents or injuries related to these chargers. No consumer complaint has been received in India or globally regarding this issue and the charger exchange program is a responsible initiative to proactively inform consumers to exchange their chargers and safeguard them.

Nokia is the world's largest mobile phone maker with an estimated 38 percent global market share of all mobile devices. In the third quarter it sold 108.5 million units.
