In its endeavour to improve the quality next generation communication services, National Telecom backbone Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is all set to enhance and upgrade its existing telecom infra in Chennai and Tamilnadu telecom circle.
Mr. Sachin Pilot, the Union Minister of State for Telecommunications reviewed performance of BSNL Tamil Nadu and Chennai circles. The operator also launches "Pongal Bonanza" wherein its 2G and 3G mobile subscribers will get Full Talk Value on selected Top-Ups starting from Rs.55. The offer will be valid up to 18 January 2011.
Speaking about the services offered by BSNL, Mr Pilot, said that there are presently about 74 lakh mobile and 3G subscribers in Tamil Nadu, of which over 14 lakhs are in Chennai. He said that the Tamil Nadu Circle and Chennai Telecom District have already added over 23 lakh subscribers till December, 2010 and would continue their efforts under an ambitious expansion plan.
To ensure that mobile services are delivered to the remotest locations as well as to improve the quality of services, over 2200 mobile base stations (BTS) have been added in the Tamil Nadu. The 3G Mobile and Data services have already been commercially launched in 52 areas across the State including all district headquarters and major towns, Pilot added.
The Wire-line Broadband services would also be delivered to rural areas through WiMAX technology which enables high speed wireless Internet. The Minister said that Government's agenda is for delivery of services to the doorsteps of the people.
