Reliance Jio’s aim is to add a million FWA (fixed wireless access) users every month in the near future. FWA is basically AirFiber service of Jio. Bharti Airtel, the only competitor of Jio in the segment is still working on rolling out 5G SA (standalone) for FWA which Jio has already done for entire India. India’s FWA subscriber count was expected to surpass 5 million at the end of 2024, said a Counterpoint Research report.
The report mentioned that at the end of September 2024, Jio AirFiber had added over 2.8 million AirFiber users. At the recent Q3 FY25 report, Jio said that it had 4.5 million AirFiber users. This means a majority of the FWA customers in India are with Jio. Note that these are high-paying customers and at the end of the day, will improve margins for Jio over time.

More Competitive Pricing and Offers
While Jio AirFiber has been announcing aggressive offers including free installation and a free Set-Top Box (STB), no such offers from competitors have surfaced. Airtel’s playing the slow game, while Jio is aggressive with its new service, like it always does.
Jio’s getting the advantage of deploying 5G SA throughout the country. In 2025, AirFiber or FWA in India is expected to grow at a steady pace as it will be the go to alternative for consumers in areas where fiber isn’t deployed or is hard to. Counterpoint Research had said that AirFiber customers will double in 2025.
