The telecom industry has witnessed plentiful cases over the last few weeks indicating how fast the market has been moving towards convergence. In this series, Italy's telecom giant Telecom Italia has announced a strategic partnership with TV giant Sky. As per the reports, the fundamental focus of this partnership is nothing but to set forth the first quadplay service in Italy.
What's In For Customers:
The strategic partnership between these two companies hinges on the introduction of fibre-optic based cable TV, which is claimed to be the first in the country. Telecom Italia calls it a transition phase for customers in Italy who will get significant benefit from broadband & ultra-broadband services, integrated mobile and landline services, and the high-definition content available on various connected devices.
As per the reports, the quadplay offering will be available for all the customers of Telecom Italia with a minimum subscription of 20 Mbps ADSL. The upper limit of this fibre-optic connection is said to be 100 Mbps. Marco Patuano, CEO, Telecom Italia states that the future strategic vision for the company comprises of developing high-end content rich services for the consumers. According to him, partnerships like the one with Sky, will play a vital role in fulfilling the long-term objective of the company in the coming years.
