Zenfone 2 had been one of the showstopper at this years CES and the fact that it would be laced with a combination of the best and more powerful hardware made me add the phone to my wish list. We had tested the Asus Zenfone 5 at Telecom Talk and the device spoke volumes about how the company is trying to squeeze in the best without blowing up on the budget front. Asus Zenfone 2 was awarded as the best smartphone last year and got some rave reviews from the tech fraternity.
Asus Zenfone 2 is the top of the line phone that houses some earth shattering specs including the mammoth 4GB of RAM. Lets walk through some of the features that sets Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML apart from other phones and makes it a desirable buy for the consumers.
Brushed Metal Finish
Not only has the Asus Zenfone 2 inherited the brushed metal outlook from its predecessor but it has also gone an extra mile and extended the brushed metal finish on the backpanel as well. Overall the phone looks and feels premium with no cheap bits hanging around.
Under the hood
This is where the things get interesting, under the hood lies a quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor clocked at an impressive 2.3GHz and paired with a 4GB of RAM. The graphic power is drawn from the PowerVR G6430 which never hesitates to run any of high end graphic intensive games. Asus Zenfone 2 performs so well that it is borderline capable of snatching the title “Flagship Slayer” from the OnePlus One.
Display and Camera
Asus have made a giant leap and this time around blessed the Zenfone 2 with a 1080p display. The viewing angles are great and the color saturation is near perfect with no subdue hues. Asus has included the pixel master technology fused with a 13-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel secondary camera.
Zenfone 2 runs on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop wrapped under the ZenUI. While many feel that ZenUI is heavily bloated and cripples the performance of the phone we beg to differ. Although the UI is task intensive in a high end phone the effect is masked by the fact that it has great set of hardware including the 4GB RAM. Additionally we found the ZenUI to be productive in nature and high on utility.
Wrapping it up
Asus Zenfone 2 had the headlines as it set a record for a pre order of 2 Million units, thanks to the class leading hardware and the bang on pricing. In India the Asus sold 25,000 units in 24-hours which bought it into the league of fast selling budget phones like Xiaomi.
Thanks to the brushed metal finish and the well appointed aesthetic elements the Zenfone 2 won the IF design award. Asus Zenfone 2 is perfect for buyers who want a taste of high end features without actually breaking the banks. If the trend is continued it won’t be far when the high priced flagship phones from other manufacturers will struggle to breathe in the highly competitive environment. If you are looking out for a no nonsense device that packs a beefy set of hardware along with a design that sets it aside from the other phones in the industry without a glint of doubt Zenfone 2 should be your natural pick.
