Xiaomi will be announcing its 8th-anniversary smartphone at its May 31 event in China. Alongside the flagship smartphone, there could be a couple of other accessories announcements such as the Mi Band 3 and other IoT products. Xiaomi has now confirmed on Weibo that it's going to launch its next iteration of MIUI, the MIUI 10 during the same event. Having said that, the Xiaomi Mi 8 could be the first smartphone to boot the MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. However, the company did not reveal which features it's going to include in the MIUI 10. However, don't get excited as Xiaomi might just announce the new update and the rollout might start a couple of months later.
Xiaomi has the track record of pushing slow software updates to its smartphones. The MIUI 9 was announced in July 2017 alongside the Mi 5X, whereas the MIUI 8 arrived in May 2016. So Xiaomi is getting back to its original launch schedule this year. Also, the features which Xiaomi is going to include in the MIUI 10 are unknown too.
The MIUI 10 update could be first rolled out to Xiaomi's flagship devices such as the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s, Mi Mix 2 and the Mi 6. Later on, it could be rolled out to Xiaomi's mid-range smartphones such as the Mi 6X, Redmi Note 5 Pro and others. Xiaomi is rumoured to completely overhaul the user interface because its been three years since the Chinese company using the same interface.
There might be new preloaded themes, revamped notification panel & Settings app, and more features are expected in the upcoming MIUI 10 update. It is also rumoured that MIUI 10 will use a lot of Artificial Intelligence technology, right from the battery saving features to observing user activities. Xiaomi is also expected to make its AI-assistant Xiao global with the MIUI 10. The development of MIUI 10 has already begun, but the rollout to all the devices will continue till the end of the year. Also, the MIUI 10 could be based on Android 5.0 Lollipop to Android 8.1 Oreo.
