Recently, Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones received certification from TENAA in China. Here are the expected features and specifications as per the leaks.

Xiaomi Redmi 5

The Redmi 5 is budget smartphone featuring a 5.7-inch display with 720 x 1440 pixel resolution. Under the hood, the device is said to be powered by Snapdragon 450 chipset. The Redmi 5 will arrive with RAM options of 2GB, 3GB and 4GB that will respectively come with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage options. There is also said to be a microSD card slot for expansion. The Redmi 5 will house 3,200 mAh battery and sport a slim profile of 7.7mm. It' sad to see Xiaomi reducing the battery capacity in 2017 smartphones.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus

Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 Plus, on the other hand, is expected to sport a larger 5.5-inch display with FHD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) screen resolution. It will also come with a more powerful processor, packing a Snapdragon 625 SoC. Coming to RAM and onboard storage, there are two options: 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB memory. Once again there is expandable storage via microSD. The Redmi 5 Plus also comes with a heavy-duty 4000mAh battery.

On the camera front, both Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus have a similar setup. There is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera that will be equipped with an LED flash and a rear-mounted 12-megapixel camera.

Coming to the pricing, the Redmi 5 is starting from 699 Yuan (approx. Rs. 6,800) while the Redmi 5 Plus is likely to cost 999 Yuan (approx. Rs. 9,700) onwards. Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s Indian made version Redmi 5A is going on sale starting December 7. Both the Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will be up for sale in China starting December 12.

The Indian launch of the smartphones might happen in early 2018. Xiaomi is yet to launch the Redmi Note 5 smartphone, which is expected to happen in January 2018, while the launch of Redmi 5 will happen after a couple of months.
