Xiaomi Launches Yet Another Snapdragon 625 Smartphone With Dual Rear Cameras

As it teased the entire last week, Xiaomi today announced the Redmi S2 smartphone in China. The Redmi S2 is yet another Xiaomi smartphone with the popular Snapdragon 625 SoC, and it features the same design language as the Xiaomi Mi 6X, the Redmi Note 5 Pro. As of now, there's no update on when Xiaomi is going to launch the Redmi S2 in India, but the device could land in the sub-continent as an Android One device, priced below Rs 10,000. Xiaomi is touting the cameras on the Redmi S2, especially the rear cameras because the device offers Electronic Image Stabilisation and Portrait mode features too.

Xiaomi Redmi S2 Features and Specifications
The Xiaomi Redmi S2 is the company second 18:9 display smartphone with a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. The display size remains the same at 5.99-inch, in-line with Mi 6X and Redmi Note 5 Pro. Under the hood, the device has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, clubbed with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The smartphone comes in two storage options- one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage and the other one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There's a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 256GB.

Moving onto the cameras on the Redmi S2, the device packs a 12MP primary sensor at the back, which is paired with a 5MP secondary depth sensor. The rear camera has support for Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) and Portrait mode. Up front, there's a 16MP selfie shooter, and the Redmi S2 is touted as the best selfie smartphone from Xiaomi.

The device offers a fingerprint scanner and it also comes with Face Unlock feature, which has become a common feature on many smartphones these days. On the brighter side, the device boots Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9.5 out of the box and the phone is backed by a 3080mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. The smartphone measures 160.73 × 77.26 × 8.1mm and weighs 170grams. It also packs an Infrared sensor with which a user can control TVs or ACs at their homes.

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 will be available in three different colour options- Grey, Pink and Gold. The base variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage costs CNY 999 (approx. Rs 10,600), while the premium 4GB RAM and 64GB storage option costs CNY 1,299 (approx. Rs 13,700).
