Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Might Get Project Treble Support With Android 8.1 Oreo Update

Xiaomi's Redmi Note 5 Pro was a complete surprise package and the fact that the company chose India as the first market to launch the product is even more interesting. However, it seems like Xiaomi had a lot of things in mind before the smartphone's release, but they did not include due to the insufficient time. A new report now suggests that Xiaomi was testing Android 8.1 Oreo build on the Note 5 Pro (first impressions) before its release and guess what, the build.prop file suggests the Project Treble support for the Note 5 Pro. Yes, you heard it right. Xiaomi was testing the Oreo build before the release of the smartphone, but the device got released with Android 7.1.2 Nougat itself, most probably due to the lack of time. And as usual, xda-developers managed to grab the Android 8.1 Oreo firmware of the Note 5 Pro, and going through the file, they found out that Xiaomi is planning to release the phone with the latest operating system.

The firmware with model number 'whyred' belongs to the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Right after getting hold of this firmware, developers went through the build.prop file to check the Project Treble support. Essentially, the build.prop has all of your smartphone's details right from the model number to all the developer settings, and it's hidden under the root folder of a smartphone.

In the file, “ro.treble.enabled” has been set to true, meaning the phone will have support for Project Treble when the update goes official to the smartphone. But for now, we don't have any information on when Xiaomi is planning to release the update. However, with the firmware already available, expect it to happen in the next couple of months.

This is not the first time a Xiaomi device's firmware has leaked. In recent times, the same people at xda-developers dug into the firmware files of Xiaomi Mi 7, Mi Mix 2S and Mi Max 3. All the three smartphones will come with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. Maybe Xiaomi could have saved the Oreo update to its flagship smartphone- either Mi 7 or Mix 2S, instead of launching it with a budget smartphone. Nothing is known for now, but expect the Oreo update for the Redmi Note 5 Pro in the next couple of months, at least in Beta.
