The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is one of the best-selling devices this year, but sadly, it's running Android Nougat-based on MIUI 9. However, that's going to change soon as the company has now confirmed that Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9.5 update will be rolled out to the Redmi Note 5 Pro in phases starting from June 29. As Xiaomi clearly mentioned, the update is being rolled out in phases, so there are chances that you may not receive it in the first phase. Xiaomi did not reveal until when the OTA update process will go on, but it might take close to a month for the entire Note 5 Pro user base to receive it.
For the unaware, Xiaomi earlier pushed the same MIUI 9.5 update based on Android 8.1 Oreo silently to the users, but it was pulled back very quickly as the ROM was riddled with way too many quirks. It now seems like Xiaomi has got rid of entire bugs and is up for rolling out the update to the users.
Having said that, the update is still based on MIUI 9.5 and not MIUI 10. The features which are to be included in this update are unknown at the moment, but it's expected to bring Project Treble support, dual 4G functionality and 4K video recording support. Also, Xiaomi did not reveal the changelog and new features to be included in this major update.
As mentioned, the update rollout will begin on June 29 (Friday). Almost all the smartphones releasing these days are arriving with Android Oreo out of the box, but surprisingly, Xiaomi released the Note 5 Pro back in February with Android Nougat, which not only raised several eyebrows but also questioned the company' focus on software updates. Even though it's a delayed rollout, the Note 5 Pro users will accept it as they've been waiting for this update since the launch.
