After going through a series of leaks and getting spotted on benchmark portals, the Xiaomi Redmi 7 has officially launched in China today. At the moment, it's unknown when Xiaomi will be launching the Redmi 7 in India, but when it arrives the Indian shores, it will take on the likes of Asus Zenfone Max M2 and Honor 8C smartphones. The Xiaomi Redmi 7 is a powerful device especially in the price range it was launched in India. The phone comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC and has a familiar design as the Honor 8C handset. The pricing of the Redmi 7 in China starts at just 699 Yuan (approx. Rs 7,300) and it comes in three variants with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Xiaomi Redmi 7: Specifications and Features

Like we saw in the leaked renders, the Redmi 7 sports a gradient design which is pretty much identical to the Honor 8C smartphone. The exterior of the Redmi 7 is polycarbonate, unlike the glass panel we get on the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro smartphones. On the front, Xiaomi's new sub-brand Redmi has added a 6.26-inch HD+ display, boasting an aspect ratio of 19:9. Thankfully, the Chinese company has added Gorilla Glass 5 protection to the screen.

Underneath the Redmi 7, we have the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset with a clock speed of 1.8GHz and Adreno 506 GPU for handling graphics-intensive tasks. While the Note 7 Pro is a direct successor to the Note 5 Pro, the Xiaomi Redmi 7 is a successor to the Redmi 5 that was launched in March 2018. As noted, the phone comes in three variants- 2GB+16GB, 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB; It's good to see Xiaomi launching 2GB+16GB variant of the Redmi 7 in 2019. There's a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 512GB, but sadly, it's a hybrid card slot.

Other hardware features on the Redmi 7 include a fingerprint scanner on the rear side, IR Blaster on the top and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Redmi 7 runs MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie out of the box and it even offers software-based Face Unlock feature.

Like the Xiaomi Redmi 6, the Redmi 7 also rocks dual rear cameras of 12MP and 2MP. Xiaomi did not reveal whether the camera specs of the Redmi 7 are similar to the Indian variant of Redmi Note 7, but the on-paper specs suggest that they're the same. The 2MP secondary sensor captures depth information. Lastly, the phone comes backed by a 3900mAh battery which should last for a whole day without any issues. At the moment, we don't have information regarding the charging port used by Xiaomi on the Redmi 7, but considering the price tag, it might be a Micro USB port.

Xiaomi Redmi 7: Pricing and Availability

Xiaomi is known for launching value for money products and the Redmi 7 is no exception. The phone comes in three variants with the base variant (2GB+16GB) priced at 699 Yuan (approx. Rs 7,200); the 3GB+32GB variant of the Redmi 7 carries a price tag of 799 Yuan (approx. Rs 8,200). Lastly, the 4GB+64GB variant of the Redmi 7 retails at 999 Yuan (approx. Rs 10,200).

If Xiaomi launches the Redmi 7 at a starting price of Rs 6,999 or Rs 7,999 in India, then the phone will be a stellar offering and it even beats the likes of Asus Zenfone Max M2 and Realme 3 in terms of pricing.
