Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Expected to Feature Snapdragon 660 SoC, 5500mAh Battery and Wireless Charging

Xiaomi is already working on the Mi Max 3 smartphone internally, and a few details about the device have leaked online. And now, key specifications of the Mi Max 3 surfaced online, courtesy of folks at XDA Developers. It has been a busy week for them as they've got rid of firmware files of multiple Xiaomi smartphones including the Mi 7, Mi Mix 2S and now the Mi Max 3. As per the firmware teardown, the Mi Max 3 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, along with 6GB of RAM. The report also suggests that the phone will feature wireless charging and IRIS scanning support. This is unusual as Xiaomi generally keeps the mid-range devices very simple with no bells and whistles.

Last year, Xiaomi said that the Mi Max changed the scope of phablets in the market, which led them to launch the Mi Max 2 smartphone. And consumers in China and India have received the Max 2 very well, which is now leading to the Mi Max 3. The Mi Max 3 will sport an 18:9 display, but the screen size is unknown at the moment. Earlier reports suggested a 7-inch Full HD+ screen for the Max 3, which now seems to be a possible one.

The Max 3 is confirmed to be powered by the Snapdragon 660 chipset, but there might be another variant with Snapdragon 636 SoC, and it could make its way to the Indian market. And the interesting feature of this leak is the presence of wireless charging strings.

Developers at XDA found out some wireless charging related strings in the APK of MIUI Keyguard. The Xiaomi Mi 7 is rumoured to be the first Xiaomi phone to come with wireless charging, and the Mi Max 3 could be the second one. Also, a demo image has been surfaced as well, but as you can see in the image, the smartphone is the Mi Mix 2. The Max 3 will arrive with glass body to the back.

Cameras in the Max 3 include a Sony IMX363 or an S5K217+S5K5E8 Samsung dual camera module at the rear, followed by a single selfie camera. The fingerprint scanner will present at the back of the phone itself, and there are chances of Xiaomi opting for IRIS scanning technology for the Mi Max 3.

Lastly, the Mi Max 3 is said to arrive with Android 8.1 Oreo-based ROM, and it might come with MIUI 9 moniker itself. Other features of the smartphone include IR Blaster, dual SIM support, 5500mAh battery with fast charging support and stereo speakers like the Mi Max 2.

The launch date of the Max 3 isn't available yet, but Xiaomi might launch it in China in May, followed by a July Indian release.
