A few days ago, we reported that Xiaomi might launch the Mi Max 2 in China on May 23, the successor to the Mi Max phablet. Today, Xiaomi officially teased the phone as launching on May 25 on its Weibo handle. The Mi Max 2 was rumoured to announce alongside the Xiaomi Mi 6 last month but finally, has a launch date.
The Mi Max 2, as said earlier, will be the successor to the Xiaomi Mi Max and will feature improvements in every aspect compared to its predecessor. The Mi Max 2 may arrive in two variants with a screen size of 6.4-inch boasting resolution of 1080 * 1920 pixels.
One variant of the phone will pack Snapdragon 626 SoC with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage. And the other variant will be fueled by the recently announced Snapdragon 660 SoC, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. Both the options will come with the unimetal body.
Camera wise, the Mi Max 2 will house a Sony IMX378 sensor with a larger aperture size of f/2.2. The sensor is indeed a great one, but the aperture size is a disappointment. There will be a 5MP front-facing camera. The device will run on MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
A couple of images of the phone was also leaked, which showed the USB Type-C port at the bottom and headphone jack, IR blaster at the top. A fingerprint sensor can be found on the back side of the phone below the rear camera.
A 5000mAh battery unit will power the phone, bigger than the 4850mAh unit seen on the Mi Max. Coming to the pricing of the device, the Snapdragon 626 variant may get a price tag of 1499 Yuan (approx. Rs. 14,000), and the Snapdragon 660 variant may set you back at 1699 Yuan (approx. Rs. 15,800).
Xiaomi launched the Mi Max in India in May 2016, but this time, the Chinese firm will bring it to India in June with an attractive price tag.
