Xiaomi Mi A2 Gets November 2018 Security Update Alongside Pixel 3 Devices

For the first time, Xiaomi has treated the Mi A2 like an Android One handset. The Chinese smartphone maker is now seeding November 2018 security update to the Mi A2 in various regions including India. The update weighing around 91MB doesn’t bring any new features to the smartphone and it just bumps the security patch version to November 2018. Search giant Google also pushed the November 2018 update to the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones, while Essential also rolled out the same to the Essential PH-1 smartphone. With the OxygenOS 9.0.2 update, the OnePlus 6 already got the November 2018 patches, while the OnePlus 6T picked up OxygenOS 9.0.4 update which also brought the November 2018 patches. Other Android One devices from Nokia and Motorola might receive the update in the coming weeks.

Xiaomi Mi A2 November 2018 Update: What’s New?

Aforementioned, this update for the Xiaomi Mi A2 doesn’t come with any new features or optimisations. Before this update, the Mi A2 users was on October 2018 update which was released during mid-October. But the November update has been pushed by Xiaomi alongside the Pixel 3 smartphones. For those users who are annoyed with the existing bugs on the Mi A2, they’ve to wait for a while as Xiaomi did not address any of the bugs with this update. For the unaware, several users reported abnormal battery drain because of the fingerprint scanner. Although only a limited amount of Mi A2 users are facing this bug, the ones who’re facing will have to deal with the issue a bit longer.

Which Devices Received the November 2018 Update?

So far, a handful of devices have received the latest November 2018 patches. It was the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T which got the update ahead of the Pixel devices. Notably, OnePlus seeded the update at the end of October itself to both the smartphones, so they’re the first ones to receive. Today’s rollout is happening to Xiaomi Mi A2, Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL and Essential PH-1; After updating the device, head over to the About Phone section and check the security level to know which security update you’re currently on.

For those who’re unaware, Google has come up with a monthly security updates scheme with Android Oreo and recently made it mandatory to smartphone manufacturers to provide updates on regular intervals. The Google Pixel devices will get the security updates first (for the most part) followed by brands such as Essential, HMD Global and OnePlus. Surprisingly, Xiaomi rolled out the November 2018 update to the Mi A2 this time around much ahead of HMD Global. It’s unknown when the Mi A2 will receive the November 2018 update.
