Following the launch of flagship Mi Mix 2S, Xiaomi has a couple of other smartphones in the pipeline. The Xiaomi Mi 6X has already been certified by TENAA in China and will be introduced as Mi A2 worldwide (well, if we go through that Mi 5X and Mi A1 combination). Now it seems, the Xiaomi Mi A2 and Redmi Y2 are likely to debut in India soon. A tipster on Twitter (Ishan Agarwal) was able to find references to the Mi A2 and upcoming Redmi Y2 in the source code of the Indian website of Xiaomi. Texts such as “Mi A2 Hard Case”, “Redmi Y2 Perforated Case Black” and “Redmi Y2 Perforated Case Blue” were spotted in the source code of official Xiaomi website. The texts are no longer available on the website and seem to have been removed. The tipster, however, was able to capture the same on the screenshots.
Similar to Mi A1, the Xiaomi Mi A2 is expected to be launched as part of Android One initiative. Codenamed M1804D2SC, the alleged Mi A2 seems to copy the Redmi Note 5 Pro design, including vertically aligned dual camera and fingerprint sensor placement. However, the phone will come with a metal unibody design with curved antenna bands visible across the top and bottom edges.
As per the specifications, the Mi A2 will reportedly come with a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display that supports FHD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. It's expected to be powered by a 2910mAh battery, and as per the listing, the dimensions of the phone are 158.88×75.54×7.3mm.
The Mi A2 is speculated to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC. One report hints that the Mi A2/Mi 6X will have two variants, one powered by Snapdragon 600 series and other with MediaTek Helio P60 processor. The CPU will be offered in 4GB and 6GB RAM options and 64GB and 128GB storage versions.
As for photography, Mi A2 will be equipped with a 20MP + 12MP sensors for the primary dual camera. It will also the same 20MP front-facing camera as the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Xiaomi is yet to announce the launch date of Mi 6X in China, so the Mi A2 is expected to come in India only later.
Coming to the Redmi Y2, there is currently not much information available regarding the design or the specs of this smartphone. The appearance of Redmi Y2 in the source code of Xiaomi’s site hints that its arrival is drawing near. It will probably launch along with Redmi Y2 Lite. The Redmi Y2 might offer better selfie cameras.
