Xiaomi has resumed the Android 8.1 Oreo update for the Mi A1 smartphone. Xiaomi has also added July 2018 security patches with the new OTA update. Xiaomi is rolling out the new update in batches as always and the users who're on the Android 8.0 Oreo will receive an OTA update very soon. As of now, it's unknown whether the users who're already on the Android 8.1 Oreo will receive this update or not. Several users who updated their device to 8.1 Oreo last month confirmed the issues such as battery drain, SMS wiping and more.
Xiaomi rolled out the delayed Android 8.1 Oreo update to Mi A1 users late last month with June 2018 security patches, but the update was immediately pulled because of a critical bug that wiped the SMSes. While some Mi A1 said the update did not wipe their SMSes, most of them noticed that they have lost the SMSes post the Android 8.1 Oreo update. That said, users did not post any bugs after updating to the update with July patches.
The Xiaomi Mi A1 was the company's first Android One device which ran Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box. The phone received Android 8.0 Oreo update at the end of 2017, but that too was plagued with issues.
In other news, Xiaomi will be launching the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite smartphones on July 24 in Spain. The Mi A2 could be the rebranded Mi 6X handset which was unveiled in China in April 2018. The Mi A2 will also boot Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, however, Xiaomi will likely announce Android P Beta program for the handset right at the launch event itself. The Mi A2 Lite, on the flip side, is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 625 SoC and said to be a rebranded version of the Redmi 6 Pro.
