Chinese brand Xiaomi has released Android 8.0 Oreo-based MIUI 9 update to its flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 6. The Mi 6 users on MIUI 9 Global ROM v7.12.14 will receive an OTA update very soon, which brings Android Oreo to the smartphone. The new update is rolling out with version number 8.1.11. And this update is a Global Beta one, meaning it might have some bugs as well. Xiaomi is yet to reveal when it's going to roll out stable Android Oreo the Mi 6 and other smartphones.

Furthermore, Xiaomi is looking for new beta testers for testing out the Oreo ROM on Mi 6 and Mi Mix 2. Sadly, the Mi 6 never launched in India, but many people imported the smartphone from China, thanks to the affordable price tag. Xiaomi may release Oreo-based MIUI 9 for the Mi Mix 2 as well as the company has already selected a few developers to carry out the testing process.

Although Xiaomi is yet to reveal the official changelog of the MIUI 9 Global ROM 8.1.11, some of the users in MIUI forums page stated that the new update brings in cosmetic changes to the UI. For example, the Contacts application received a makeover, and several other Xiaomi apps have received design tweaks.

The company also fixed various bugs which were present in the earlier version 7.12.14. A critical bug which used to display a blank screen while unlocking the phone has been fixed too. Xiaomi also provided the OTA update link, meaning users on the earlier 7.12.14 version can download the zip file to manually update it, only if they can't wait for the update to appear on their phone.

Going forward, Xiaomi will be releasing the same Oreo update for the Mi Mix 2. Since December 22, 2017, Xiaomi hasn't released any Global Beta ROM for the Mi Mix 2 as the company is working on Oreo already. Thankfully, the Mi Mix 2 is launched in India, and the smartphone users in India can test out the upcoming Oreo update. Don't expect Xiaomi to roll out Stable ROM based on Android Oreo anytime soon.
