In a bid to climb up on the success chart, Xiaomi is allegedly working on a new strategy which involves making its own chipsets. As per a report by WSJ, Xiaomi is seeking to end the partnership with Qualcomm and might focus on developing and manufacturing processors on its own.
Now this move will bring Xiaomi in the league of big brands like Huawei (Kirin chipset), Samsung (Exynos) and others who manufacture their own chipsets. The report states that Xiaomi has codenamed these upcoming chipsets as Pinecone. The company could launch these chipsets in a month with the Xiaomi Mi 6 smartphone, which is rumoured to be announced soon.
To recall, Qualcomm is now facing industry-wide hustle after US Federal authorities have given a red card to the company for trade malpractices and other monopoly-inducing actions. Apple filed a case against Qualcomm, which included serious allegations such as licensing fee and commission charge on every product sold. In a statement, Apple said, “Qualcomm is charging royalties for technologies they have nothing to do with,”
Well, such incidents could pose as a lesson for the other manufacturers like Xiaomi. And maybe, of such issues with Qualcomm, Xiaomi finally decided to get into its own SoC making business. Reports state that the chips manufactured by Xiaomi would be in collaboration with Beijing Pinecone Electronics company.
It would be interesting to see how Xiaomi’s in-house chips perform on the devices. Stay tuned with us for more information on Xiaomi Mi 6 launch hand-in-hand with Xiaomi’s Pinecone chipset.
