Xiaomi is all set to launch the Xiaomi Play smartphone on December 24. After the Play is official, the next phone that the Chinese smartphone maker will launch is the 48MP camera phone that Xiaomi’s President Lin Bin confirmed beginning this month. So far the 48MP camera Xiaomi phone was said to be the Mi 9 but a report beginning last week revealed that it would actually be a Redmi phone. A newly leaked poster now reveals that the 48MP Xiaomi phone will be called the Redmi Pro 2. Remember the Redmi Pro launched in 2016? Yes, the upcoming 48MP Xiaomi phone or the Redmi Pro 2 will actually be the successor to the Redmi Pro.

Redmi Pro 2 to Have Snapdragon 675 SoC Underneath

In addition to the name, the leaked poster also reveals that the Redmi Pro 2 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 675 which is said to bring great performance to mid-range smartphones. This makes us conclude that the Redmi Pro 2 will be an affordable phone even though it packs a 48MP camera on the back panel, but it’s quite evident that the upcoming Redmi phone will be costlier than the existing ones like the Redmi Note 6 Pro or the Redmi 6 Pro.

The leaked poster goes in line with the past reports that the upcoming 48MP Xiaomi phone will come with Snapdragon 675 chipset. That being the case, the Redmi Pro 2 will be a powerhouse and it won’t be wrong to say that it will be able to handle the day to day activities smoothly. To recall, the Redmi Pro was launched with a deca-core Helio X25 chipset and a dual camera setup on the rear panel. To recall, it was one of the first dual camera smartphones to launch back then and it never came to India.

Redmi Pro 2 Will Be Launched in January

As of now Xiaomi hasn’t revealed any launch date of the Redmi Pro 2 but the company has confirmed to launch the phone in January. Initially, we expect the phone to launch only in China, and later come to other markets. There are no reports if the phone will come to India or not, considering this is going to be a mid-ranger, chances of it hitting the Indian shores are high.

Previously leaked reports have revealed that the Redmi Pro 2 will come with an in display selfie camera like the Galaxy A8s, recently announced Honor View 20 and Huawei Nova 4. Rumours also suggest that the phone will have a glass back to it which makes it the first for a Redmi phone. Xiaomi is also said to play around with the design of the phone and make it look attractive to the consumer’s eyes.

Some leaks from earlier this week suggested that the 48MP Xiaomi phone will have pretty thick bezels on the front and sport an LCD display that is said to be supplied by BOE, a Chinese company. The Redmi Pro 2 is expected to include three cameras on top of the glass panel, the primary one being the 48MP sensor. One of the three cameras are going to be a wide-angle lens.

As far as the price of the phone is concerned the Redmi Pro 2 is expected to fall in the mid-range segment. Rumours say that the phone could be priced more than CNY 2,000, which is roughly around Rs 20,000 in China. In India, that’s if the phone comes to the country, we expect Xiaomi to price it aggressively.
