Idea Cellular, the third largest telecom operator in India, recently launched a Rs. 697 National Special Tariff plan which offers 1.5GB data per day for 2G/3G/4G users with a validity of 84 days and free calls for Maharashtra and Goa users. For subscribers from other telecom circles the plan will differ.
Non-4G handset users will also be able to make use of this pack. However, non-4G smartphone users will get just 6GB of data with a validity of 84 days. Users will get 10% of MRP as talktime on recharges done through My Idea App and Idea website, which is another attractive offer from Idea Cellular.
Incoming/outgoing roaming calls are free on Idea’s network. When we compare this plan with Airtel’s Rs.648 plan, it offers 2.5GB per day for 4G users on the 4G handset with a validity of 28 days and free calls. If Airtel wishes to stay on top, it has to include free outgoing roaming too.
Airtel, India's largest telecom operator has announced the launch of VoLTE services. Just like the Jio VoLTE calls, the Airtel VoLTE calls are also free! The Airtel VoLTE services have been launched in Mumbai first and the country-wide rollout is expected to happen in the next few months.
Jio has stopped phase one of booking for its Rs.1500 phone. Reliance Jio’s phone will be the last nail in the coffin for incumbent telecom operators if they do not match up with JioPhone's effective price of Rs. 0, and luring tariff plan's price of Rs. 153.
Idea Cellular is going through a lean phase like every other incumbent because of the predatory pricing by Reliance Jio. We hope to see all the telecom operators work in unison to give a better user experience.
