WhatsApp Rolls Out Group Video Calling Feature to Limited Android Users

WhatsApp seems to be in the final stage of testing the group video calling feature it promised at the F8 Developers Conference. WhatsApp Android users on the Beta programme with latest version 2.18.183 installed on their smartphone is noticing the availability of group video calling feature. Also, some of the iOS users also noticed the same on their account. That said, it seems like the feature is available only to a ‘limited’ set of Android and iOS users. WhatsApp, last month announced that it would be rolling out group video calling and Stickers to the platform very soon, but there’s no official information on the rollout of the features. However, with this information, we can now confirm that WhatsApp is silently rolling the feature to Android Beta users first and later on, it will be added to the stable version. WhatsApp Windows Phone users have to wait a bit longer to experience the feature.

While WhatsApp Stickers feature is yet to be officially rolled out, some users have started spotting the group video calling feature on their smartphone. But as mentioned, the feature is currently rolled out to only a few users and you must be extremely lucky to get it. WhatsApp watcher, WABetaInfo tweeted this news based on multiple users reporting the feature’s availability on their smartphone. We have checked availability in both Android Beta and iOS platforms, but no luck as of now. Also, WABetaInfo states there’s no way to enable the group video calling right now, so you’ve to wait for the rollout patiently.

If you’re on the latest version of WhatsApp and want to check whether the feature is enabled for you or not, head over to the calls section on the home screen and fire up a video call to any of the contact (Preferably a Beta user contact on Android) and check if there’s a new button to add participants to the call. If yes, then the feature is enabled for you, if not, you’ve to wait for the next updates.

As mentioned above, the group video calling feature was announced earlier this month by Facebook, stating that it will be rolled out very soon. Facebook also mentioned the WhatsApp Stickers feature would also be rolled out to the users very soon, but there are no signs on the same. Do let us know in the comments section below whether the group video calling feature is enabled for you or not.
