At the 41st Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the company announced a lot of achievements of Reliance Jio in the last one year. The company has announced that WhatsApp will be making its way to the JioPhone, which is the company’s feature phone. Alongside WhatsApp, Jio also confirmed that YouTube and Facebook would also be made available in the JioPhone app store. It’s been a while we have been hearing rumours about WhatsApp working on a version of KaiOS, and it has now been confirmed by Reliance Jio. Last year, Google announced the rollout of Google Assistant

to the platform and it has been loved by the JioPhone users. WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube will be available for the users to download from the app store from August 15.

The JioPhone runs on KaiOS and it’s the reason behind the popularity of KaiOS in recent times. Even Google has recently invested $22 million in KaiOS, seeing the growth of the operating system in the last one year. And the entire credit goes to JioPhone itself.

Moving onto other details, Reliance Jio also announced that it sold over 25 million units of JioPhone so far and also announced an upgraded variant, dubbed JioPhone 2. Jio will be selling both the variants going forward.

Furthermore, Jio stated that the voice command is one of the best features of JioPhone. Users have issued over 20 crore voice commands on a monthly basis.

Reliance Jio is selling the JioPhone at free of cost, but a user has to pay Rs 1,500 while picking up the device. The Rs 1,500 amount will be refunded back to the customers after three years and they’ve to return the device as well. For the unaware, the JioPhone is a feature phone with 4G VoLTE support and Jio is calling it as ‘Smartest Feature Phone.’
