WhatsApp Beta Starts Receiving Dark Mode for Major Sections, Public Rollout Expected in a Few Months

One of the most awaited features on any application this year has been the dark mode. Now we know that WhatsApp’s Dark Mode has been in the making for quite some time now as we have heard about it from some rumours, but till now there hasn’t been any official word from the company about it. The Dark Mode, like we have seen on a few other platforms like on Android Q gives us a high contrast display with mostly black backgrounds which reduces strain on eyes and also saves battery. However, this new update about Dark Mode on WhatsApp hints that the Facebook-owned messaging might be close to launching the Dark Mode for all its users.

WhatsApp Chats, Calls and Status Get Dark Mode

This new report comes from the popular blog reporting about WhatsApp, WABetaInfo which has informed that WhatsApp has implemented the Dark Mode on its chats, calls and status pages in the latest Beta version 2.19.13. The blog has also shared screenshots about the new upcoming feature on the popular instant messaging app. However, with this, WABetaInfo has also shared that some sections of the application might still be incompatible with the Night Mode, so there is still some time before we get to see a full app-wide Dark Mode on WhatsApp.

In the screenshots, we can also see that the call or video call symbol appears green as of now, but it is anticipated that WhatsApp will change the colour to white once the Dark Mode is made public for the users. Apart from the three sections in WhatsApp, chat, status and calls, the Settings menu in WhatsApp has been given the Dark Mode theme with the black colour. However, it is worth noting that WhatsApp will be following its usual schedule of rolling out the update first to the Beta users and then it will push the update to the general users of the app. Therefore, it is quite possible that we still might have a few months to go before we see the Dark Mode on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp Urging Users to Update App to Prevent Spyware Hack

In other relevant news, WhatsApp has recently been the victim of a new hack which was allegedly being conducted by an Israeli intelligence agency, NSO. The agency was reportedly spreading spyware through WhatsApp calls which were not even visible to the users. The spyware was reported to compromise the privacy and security of users as the users’ photos, call logs, and other data were at risk. To prevent the attack on devices, WhatsApp had urged the users to update their application at once. Currently, WhatsApp is investigating to check how many people have been affected by the spyware.
