In possibly the best move of recent times, Vodafone has rolled out a new feature to its prepaid users, which displays the ‘Data Usage Alert,’ for the users on unlimited prepaid combo plans with daily data FUP. Nowadays, users are consuming a lot of data, thanks to the introduction of tariff plans with daily data benefit and Vodafone has introduced the same to its prepaid users. Under this new feature, Vodafone will start displaying a warning on whenever a user completes the daily FUP which comes with the prepaid plan. After the completion of daily FUP, if a user tries to open any website, they’ll be redirected to a new page which shows ‘Data Usage Alert,’ and a way to get additional data for the day (shows USSD code for recharges).
As per a tip we received from our reader Ajay Prashanth, he’s using a Vodafone SIM card and completed his daily data FUP for the day, post which when he tried to open a website, he was redirected to a website which displayed the data usage alert. The message displayed was ‘As per regulatory norms, internet service has been stopped after pack quota/validity. To use data @standard rates, SMS START to 1925 or to buy a data pack dial *444#.’
Having said that, we’re yet to verify this on Idea Cellular and Airtel networks, but most likely, both the telcos will also display the same Data Usage Alert message as the norm will be passed to all the telcos at the same time. We will update this post once we verify the same.
For now, users have to head over to their respective operator’s applications to check the data usage, while Reliance Jio and some other telcos (comment down below if your operator notifies the data usage via an SMS) notify about the data usage limit via an SMS. This will be a good move from DoT and will be very much helpful to the users as they do not have the requirement to open the application and check the data usage every time. Once they’re done with their daily data quota, they’ll be displayed with the alert message if they try to consume data further.
