Vodafone India, the country’s second largest telecom operator, has slashed "effective" data charges for select postpaid customers by offering double data benefits. This move comes at a time when Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio is preparing for a commercial launch having extended the preview offer to postpaid enterprise customers.
Jio is expected to lure these high-paying customers from incumbent telcos with affordable data rates once it launches services commercially. Vodafone postpaid customers who are using postpaid data add-on packs are getting double data extension for next 6 months.
For instance, if you've been using Vodafone postpaid 2GB data add-on pack for Rs 450 for one bill cycle, you might receive an offer stating your old offer has been deactivated, and the company has activated double data benefits which would be valid for next 6 months.
Vodafone executives TT spoke to have also confirmed such developments and said its now available to selected postpaid customers across the country. However, it is unclear if the offer would be rolled to all postpaid customers in India. Vodafone, which had earlier slashed “effective” data rates for prepaid customers to offer more data benefits without shelling more money, also started offering unlimited voice calls and roaming on two high-value postpaid packs to hold on to its higher revenue paying customers.
Add-On data pack | Existing Benefits | New Benefits |
Rs 250 | 1 GB | 2 GB |
Rs 450 | 2 GB | 4 GB |
Rs 650 | 3 GB | 6 GB |
*Limited for select postpaid customers for next 6 months |
Vodafone’s move followed Bharti Airtel’s free and unlimited voice calls packs to ringfence its top revenue generating customers. If you're a Vodafone postpaid user, share your feedback on this Double Data extension through comments.
