After the launch of their flagship phone Vivo V9, Vivo is bringing out a new smartphone to the Indian market which will sport classy bezel-less design and an 18:9 screen ratio. The smartphone we are talking about here is the Vivo Y71 which will ship with a 5.99-inch screen and Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box. The handset debuts at Rs 10,999 in the country. The Vivo Y71 boasts of a lot of mediocre features and also shows off a lot of iPhone X like features especially in the screen-to-body ratio and facial recognition department. The phone which comes with 84.4% of screen-to-body ratio is actually said to be more than the iPhone X’s measure of the same. Also, the phone uses the facial recognition feature to lower the volume of calls, alarms or notifications when the user is looking towards the screen. Just like the iPhone X, the fingerprint sensor has also been done with.

Speaking about the specifications of the device, the Vivo Y71 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC to drive the phone, which is quite an old processor especially at this price point, since the Redmi Note 5 which ships almost in the same range has a better performing chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. The smartphone will be equipped with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, although the storage is expandable or not is not yet known but looking at Vivo’s previous launches it is expected that the phone will have a microSD slot. Also, the phone will come in two colours of Gold and Matte Black.

On the imaging front, the smartphone fashions a 13MP camera with Phase Detect Auto Focus, while on the front Vivo provides a 5MP sensor which is again a slight let down for selfie shooters. However, Vivo does claim that the camera comes with AI optimisations to increase the quality of the images.

The phone comes fitted with a 3360mAh battery which is expected to be enough for a day’s worth of normal work. Besides that, the phone runs on fun touch OS on top of Android 8.1 which will also have some battery saving features like the Smart Engine.

The phone is going to be available in offline stores nationwide starting April 14, on online channels like Flipkart, Amazon, PayTm Mall or Vivo E-store, the phone will be available starting April 16.

This new debut by Vivo is a follow up to the recently launched flagship, the Vivo V9. The V9 which ships at the price of Rs 22,990 has a strong resemblance to the iPhone X with the 19:9 screen to body ratio and the notch on the top of the display. The smartphone also has a very efficient Snapdragon 626 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
