After being in the rumours since the launch of Vivo V17 Pro, the Chinese company Vivo today announced the Vivo V17 smartphone. The Vivo V17 is a rebranded version of the Vivo S1 Pro that was launched in China a few weeks ago. The latest entrant to the Vivo V series has just gone official in the Russian market and it will soon reach the Indian shores as well. Notably, there are some rumours which already pointed out the India launch of Vivo V17 is right around the corner. The Vivo V17 sports a quad-camera setup on the back similar to the Vivo V17 Pro, but it comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC. Right now, there are no details regarding the India launch of the Vivo V17, but we're expecting it to happen in the second week of December.

Vivo V17: Specifications and Features

The Vivo V17 is a different smartphone altogether compared to the Vivo V17 Pro. The phone does not feature the marquee pop-up camera module that houses dual cameras on the front of the Vivo V17 Pro. Instead, Vivo has gone for the traditional teardrop notch which houses 32MP sensor. On the front of the phone, there's a 6.38-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 1080x2340 pixels and 19.5:8 aspect ratio. Vivo says the phone offers over 90% screen-to-body ratio.

As mentioned above, the entire spec-sheet of the Vivo V17 is pretty much similar to the Vivo S1 Pro. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset, coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Even the Vivo S1 Pro comes with up to 8GB of RAM. The Vivo V17 could probably take on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro in terms of storage options when it reaches India.

Moving onto the cameras, the Vivo V17 features quad cameras on the rear side sitting inside the diamond-shaped module. As for sensors, we geta. 48MP primary shooter with f/1.8 aperture, 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, 2MP macro sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. Vivo did not reveal whether the 48MP lens used on the Vivo V17 is Sony IMX586 or Samsung ISOCELL GM1. On the front of the phone, we have a 32MP shooter and there's no secondary sensor like the Vivo V17 Pro.

Connectivity options on the Vivo V17 include Dual 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and a USB Type-C port is located on the bottom. The handset runs Android 9 Pie-based FunTouch OS 9.2 out of the box and there's a 4500mAh battery backing the entire package. The phone also has fast charging support.

Vivo V17: Pricing and Expected India Launch

In Russia, the Vivo V17 has been launched in only one variant- 8GB+128GB and it's priced at RUB 22,990 (approx. Rs 26,000). In India, the Vivo V17 may arrive in multiple storage variants with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Similar to the Vivo V17 Pro, the Vivo V17 will also be aimed at the offline market in the sub-continent. As for the expected pricing, the Vivo V17 may retail at a starting price of around Rs 19,990 in India considering it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC. Also, the phone does not feature any pop-up selfie camera to increase the manufacturing cost.
