Videocon which currently operates GSM services in 18 circles, and won back 6 of its 17 circles (excluding Punjab) in the recent spectrum auction has now asked its customers in 11 telecom circles including Mumbai to Port Out from its network to any other service provider using Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in respective circles.
In an official communications to all customers Vidiocon said "As per Hon’ble Supreme Court’s order, Videocon services will not be available from Jan 19, 2013 (00.00 hour). Please use your available balance and port out than".
Videocon currently operates in Tamil Nadu( including Chennai ), Punjab (with Hfcl Infotel Ltd), Haryana, Mumbai, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh & Chattisgarh, UP East, UP West and Himachal Pradesh. However Videocon is commercially available in selected circles like Tamilnadu, Mumbai & Maharastra, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab and Kerala. While 18 circles out of 22 are listed on Videocon’s website to show their minimal presence to meet roll out obligations.
In the recent auction of 1800MHz airwave Videocon won back just 6 circles -Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradedsh , UP – East, UP – West, and failed to get spectrum and license for all other circles including Mumbai. Apart from these 6 circles Its GSM service will be continue in Punjab circles wherein it is operating under brand sharing agreement between HITL (Hfcl Infotel Ltd) and Videocon.
On 17 December India's telecom regulator TRAI gave a 15 days deadline to the all mobile service providers who’s licences had quashed by SC, to inform their subscribers about the closer of mobile service in the respective circles and also send text messages or provide this information in writing to all their customers in those circles where they failed to retain spectrum and renew their licences.
