India's telecom watchdog Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed Uninor to generate UPC for Mobile Number Portability and refund within 15 days the prepaid balance amount of its GSM subscribers in Mumabi and Kolkata where the company has shut down its mobile service operations.
TRAI asked Uninor to generates Unique Porting Code (UPC) to facilitate shifting of their mobile numbers to networks of other service providers via Mobile Number Portability service.
The regulator also directed Uninor for special arrangements at company operated stores and call center wherein its subscriber can submit their porting request to port out from Uninor's shut downed network. TRAI also said to Uninor to publish MNP procedure for porting mobile numbers number and refund of prepaid balance in all local newspapers in Mumbai and Kolkata and on its websites.
TRAI directed other all other mobile operators to accept Uninor's customers porting request as per rules.
