Turn your Smartphone into a Satellite Phone

Thuraya Telecommunications known for satellite phone offerings offers a product called SatSleeve which can turn an Android or iPhone to a satellite phone. The offering is described as an industry first –

The Thuraya SatSleeve provides access to phone calls, emails, instant messages and popular social media apps in satellite mode, across 161 countries across Thuraya’s coverage network.

Usage turns out to be really simple – all one needs to do is to dock the phone into SatSleeve, pair through bluetooth and install an app.

How can we use this, if the below statement in Wiki is true…?

India – Only Inmarsat service permitted. International Long Distance(ILD) licence and No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by Indian Department of Telecommunications (DOT) is mandatory for satellite communication services on Indian territory.[11][12][13][14] Import and operation of all other satellite services, including Thuraya & Iridium, is illegal.[15]
