The Moto G5S Plus at Rs 12,999 is a Great Deal for Users Looking Out for Stock Android Smartphone

While Flipkart is stealing the show with its Mobiles Bonanza Sale, Amazon India is quietly offering the best deals on some of its exclusive smartphones. The Motorola Moto G5S Plus is now available at just Rs 12,999 on Amazon without any exchange offers. The price of the smartphone is down by Rs 2,000, meaning it usually retails for Rs 14,999. And for the current price, the G5S Plus is a steal deal for Motorola fans and stock Android lovers. The G5S Plus offers excellent build quality, proven Snapdragon 625 chip, decent battery life, not-so-great cameras (but there's a workaround for that) and great software experience. All these days, the major rival for the G5S Plus was the Xiaomi Mi A1, however, it's currently out of stock on Flipkart and Mi.com. The Mi A1 retails for Rs 13,999 without any discount, and there's a new contender in the form of Redmi Note 5 Pro which is a better smartphone than the G5S Plus in any given factor. Nevertheless, the Note 5 Pro is not available that easily and if you're a person who can't wait for them to arrive on stock, the Moto G5 Plus should be your pick, on top of all those similarly-specced Honor devices.

Firstly, let's revise the specifications of the G5S Plus. The smartphone offers a 5.5-inch Full HD display and is powered by the Snapdragon 625 chipset. The phone comes in a single 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage option with a memory card slot for storage expansion up to 128GB. There are two 13MP cameras at the back, followed by an 8MP shooter on the front. The fingerprint scanner is placed at the bottom of the phone, and the device is fuelled by a 3000mAh battery. It boots stock Android 7.1 Nougat with little Moto touches on top and is soon expected to receive Android 8.0 Oreo update.

These specifications seem outdated when compared to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro because it packs a much better Snapdragon 636 SoC along with an AI-powered dual camera setup.

But the Moto G5S Plus is a great smartphone when it comes to real life. I have been using the smartphone for more than six months now, and there are absolutely no issues with the smartphone. The build quality is excellent, in fact, it feels a lot better than the Xiaomi Mi A1 or the Redmi Note 5 Pro when taken into hands. And the 5.5-inch display is on par with displays present on the smartphones such as the Mi A1. Of course, it lacks an 18:9 panel, meaning it won't match the smartphones such as Redmi Note 5 Pro, Honor 7X or the Honor 9 Lite. This is probably the only letdown for the smartphone.

The performance of the smartphone is top-notch, and there are no software issues too. Of course, Motorola has delayed the Oreo update rollout, but it's expected to arrive in the next couple of months or at least after the release of Moto G6 family. The 3000mAh battery delivers a day worth of juice without any issues, and the presence of Turbo Charge support is an added addition.

Now, let's move onto the final part- those cameras. The Moto G5 Plus launched back in March 2017 still offers best camera experience, in fact, in some scenarios, it outperformed the Redmi Note 5 Pro as well. But that's not the case with the Moto G5S Plus. The camera setup is different as it has a 13MP primary RGB sensor and a 13MP secondary depth sensor.

However, I wasn't impressed with the cameras of the G5S Plus, and the blame here goes to the stock camera application. Like we did with the Moto X4, we sideloaded the Google Camera application, and the results are evident. With the Google Camera application, the Moto G5S Plus delivers camera performance which is dependable. The 8MP front-facing camera along with Google Camera's Portrait mode is great too.

Like I said if stock Android is your preference and if you can manage manually installing the Google Camera APK on your smartphone, then you should head over to Amazon and purchase the Moto G5S Plus smartphone.
