Spectrum auction 2015: 2100MHz band final list of winning operators

The spectrum auction concluded on Wednesday 25th March after 19 days and 115 rounds of bidding where 8 operators competed against each other to winning airwaves required for telecommunication. In the 2100MHz band, the government had put up 5MHz each in 17 circles for auction, out of which spectrum in 14 circles was sold and that in 3 circles remained unsold. The entire spectrum in the 14 circles was bought by the three incumbent operators Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea cellular. This spectrum will be utilised for 3G services. Below is the list of winning operators along with the circles in which they won fresh spectrum.

Airtel already had 2100MHz spectrum in 13 circles before this auction and won fresh spectrum in 7 circles in the current auction, of these 6 circles are new while in Tamil Nadu circle Airtel previously had spectrum in this band and topped it up with an additional 5MHz in this auction. As a result, Airtel now has 2100MHz spectrum in 19 circles. Vodafone had 2100MHz spectrum in 9 circles and has now added another 5 in this auction bringing the total up to 14 circles. Idea cellular had 2100MHz spectrum in 11 circles and in this auction they bought spectrum in Kolkata circle bringing the total up to 12 circles. In Delhi, Idea is using its 900MHz spectrum to offer 3G services. All three of these operators have inter circle roaming agreements with each other to offer pan-India footprint for 3G services.
