The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) today had a meeting with telecom operators. Trai has confirmed that it will be publishing the call drop report of telcos under new norms by the end of this month. “We will publish their performance report by the end of this month,” Trai chairman R.S. Sharma told reporters at PTI after the meeting. It is also said that the call drop reports might have arrived under the new quality norms, but the regulator will compile the performance reports based on the data.

At the meeting, operators also highlighted issues related to app-based calling, rationalisation of taxes and infrastructure expansion woes, that are adversely impacting their business.

“We had a very fruitful discussion with industry players. They were unanimous on some of the issues that Trai should deal with in this year like OTT(over-the-top) consultation, one country one licence, infrastructure related issues, rationalisation of taxes under GST ... There were 6-7 issues that they want the regulator to look into,” added the PTI report.

Furthermore, operators also asked for a spectrum policy, which keeps them updated about the auction of spectrum bands in the future said the Trai chairman. “They will give us details of the issues in a couple of days after which Trai will be able to share specific roadmap,” Sharma said.

Telecom operators also asked for consultation around Mobile Number Portability (MNP) and unrequested commercial voice calls.

The Trai promised to release call drop reports by the end of 2017, and a telco may get a penalty of Rs 10 lakh if Trai observes more call drops in the said region. DoT also said that call drops are unacceptable in this era.
