TRAI Pushes for Enhanced Controls on Robotic and Bulk Calls
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has called for proactive action from all stakeholders, particularly Access Service Providers and their Delivery Telemarketers, to take immediate steps. This includes implementing technical solutions for traceability and preventing bulk calling by their enterprise customers using 10-digit numbers through PRI/SIP.

Recent Meeting Highlights and Key Discussions

This week, TRAI convened a meeting with Access Service Providers and their Delivery Telemarketers to address the issue of unsolicited commercial calls and to deliberate on actions to tackle spamming. The regulator said it conveyed a strong message to service providers and their Telemarketers, urging them to come forward and take effective measures to curb bulk communications using voice calls.

Addressing Misuse of Headers and Templates

During the meeting, TRAI discussed issues related to the misuse of headers and templates, traceability, corrective actions, and the control of promotional calls.

Instances of misuse of headers and content templates without the entities' knowledge were highlighted, and stakeholders discussed ways to prevent such misuse. Access Service Providers and Delivery Telemarketers shared the steps they have taken to identify and trace the entities responsible for sending unsolicited messages. They also discussed corrective measures to prevent such cases in the future.

The meeting also included discussions on controlling promotional calls, including robotic calls, auto-dialer calls, and pre-recorded calls. The emphasis was placed on migrating all enterprise business customers to the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) platform for sending bulk communications in compliance with TRAI regulations.

The regulator stressed the importance of implementing effective measures to curb bulk voice communications.
