Telecom Fiji is partnering with New Zealand service provider Kordia, specialising in critical communications, to implement its North transmission network in Vanua Levu. The project will connect the Savusavu Submarine Cable Station to the Labasa Exchange using advanced Ciena transmission equipment, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Fiji's telecommunications infrastructure, Telecom Fiji said.

Kordia’s Expertise and Role
The company notes that Kordia has extensive experience in designing, building, operating, and maintaining critical networks and communication infrastructure across New Zealand, Australia, and the wider Pacific. Kordia has collaborated closely with Ciena to deliver a solution tailored to Telecom Fiji's requirements.

Telecom Fiji emphasised the importance of this partnership, stating, "This collaboration with Kordia is a crucial step in expanding our network's capacity and reliability, especially for Vanua Levu. The new transmission network will support the growing demand for high-speed connectivity and digital services across Fiji, enabling us to provide even more robust and scalable solutions for our customers."
Kordia expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying: "We will leverage our expertise to work closely with Telecom Fiji to ensure a seamless, high-quality deployment."

Previous Kordia Projects in the Region
In the region, Kordia has previously installed and commissioned Ciena equipment at InterChange Vanuatu's subsea fiber landing stations, Fintel's marine cable network in Fiji, and provided network testing and fiber training for Tonga Telecom.
Kordia has also offered consultancy and fiber testing services for Telecom Fiji's optical fiber network. Telecom Fiji noted that the current collaboration with Kordia and Ciena ensures a smooth, high-quality rollout of the North transmission network.
