Lately, we have seen a lot of smartphone launches in India. Brands such as Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Motorola, HMD Global, all have launched at least one smartphone in the last two months to take advantage during the festive season. Realme, which is the new smartphone brand making all the headlines in India because of its aggressive pricing. Then there’s good-old Xiaomi sticking to its Honest Pricing tagline all the time. Motorola went back to basics with the One Power, while OnePlus refined the OnePlus 6 and brought the OnePlus 6T

to the users. All the brands mentioned above have launched at least one smartphone which is priced aggressively to take on the competition.

There will be many who choose a smartphone by looking at the on-paper specifications, and there are some who actually care about the real-life user experience. Here’s an example to give an idea about what am actually talking about: the Snapdragon 450-powered Moto G6 is actually performing better than the Snapdragon 636-powered Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 in day-to-day life because of the superior software optimisation. Not only the Zenfone Max Pro M1, it even performs better than the Realme 1 and Realme 2 smartphones because of the ColorOS software.

In 2018, we have seen many smartphone brands releasing their smartphones first and later on aiming to tune the software via OTA updates. For example, when the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 launched, the phone had various issues and still several users are facing such issues. But a lot of users purchased the device going by the spec sheet.

So the real question is: What matters the most for you in a smartphone? Specifications or the real-life experience. To me, it’s the experience which is why I rated the OnePlus 6T as the go-to Android smartphone right now because the Pixel 3 is riddled with several software issues. What’s your preference?
