Sony launches Xperia Z2, Z2 tablet and M2 at MWC 2014

Sony is looking to take the fight on to the likes of Apple and Samsung in future and is working constantly towards the achievement of this goal. It has launched its flagship smartphone i.e. Xperia Z2, its flagship tablet i.e. Z2 tablet and a mid range device which is the Xperia M2 at the MWC 2014. Here are the specifications of the three devices:

Xperia Z2:




The Xperia Z2 has been launched as a successor to the Z1 and it comes across as a good upgrade of the same. It will go on sale in April in India for around Rs 45,000. Here is a look at its specifications:

  • 5.2-inch Triluminos Display with Live Colour LED and has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels
  • 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor
  • Adreno 330 GPU
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card by another 64GB
  • 20.7MP rear camera with Exmor R sensor and 4K video recording, 2.2MP primary camera
  • IP55 and IP58 certification for dust and water resistant capabilities
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • LTE /3G HSPA+ (Depending upon region), WiFim Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, MHL 3.0 and  NFC to keep you connected at all times
  • 3200 mAh Battery
  • Black, White and Purple colours

It will be worthy competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S5 which was recently launched at the MWC as well. Both of them will be made available in India around the same time.

Sony Xperia Z2 tablet:

The tablet is a bigger version of the flagship smartphone. It has a similar hardware sheet barring a few changes but it has the title of being the world's slimmest waterproof tablet to its name. It has a 6.4mm thickness. Here are its specifications:

  • 10.1-inch TRILUMINOS Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 and a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels
  • 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor
  • Adreno 330 GPU
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card by another 64GB
  • 8MP rear camera with Exmor R sensor, 2.2MP front camera
  • IP55 and IP58 certification for dust and water resistant capabilities
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • LTE /3G HSPA+ (Depending upon region), WiFim Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, MHL 3.0 and  NFC for better connectivity
  • 6,000 mAh Battery
  • Black and White colours

It is expected to come to India in April 2014 as well alongside Z2 at a price tag around Rs 45,000 and will lock horns with the iPad Air.

Xperia M2:

Sony has also launched a mid ranger at the event alongside the flagships in the form of Xperia M2 which will be a budget device from the company and will be aimed squarely at the devices like Grand Neo, Moto G and the likes. Here is a list of its specifications:

  • 4.8-inch capacitive display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels
  • 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400
  • Adreno 305 GPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage capacity, support for microSD card upto 32GB
  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
  • 8MP primary camera with LED, VGA front camera
  • 8MP rear camera with LED flash, 1080p video recording
  • Dual SIM (GSM+GSM) variant as well as single SIM variant
  • LTE  3G HSPA+(Region specific), WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and NFC
  • 2300mAh Battery

It is expected to come with a sub Rs 20,000 price tag by April-May this year in India.
