Xiaomi was the first smartphone brand to launch a device powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, and it was used inside Redmi Note 5 Pro. Later on, a couple of devices powered by the same chipset were launched including the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, Asus Zenfone 5 and the Meizu E3. Now, it seems the company is yet again working on a smartphone, that will be powered by Qualcomm’s unannounced chipset - Snapdragon 638 which is said to be upgraded version of Snapdragon 636. The Chinese phone manufacturer has a mid-range smartphone codenamed “Valentino” which surfaced on the benchmarking site Geekbench.

The Xiaomi Valentino Geekbench shows the handset will arrive with the Snapdragon 638 SoC because the motherboard states as sdm638. The clock speed of the device is listed as 1.44GHz, and it's an octa-core CPU, same as other Snapdragon 600 series chipsets. The listing further reveals the device has 6GB of RAM and is running Android 8.1 Oreo. It has managed to score 1485 points in the single-core test and 5440 points in the multi-core test. The multi-core score is slightly higher than the Redmi Note 5 Pro's around 5000 score.

Unfortunately, the Geekbench listing doesn’t reveal any other specifications of the Xiaomi Valentino. However, it is speculated that Snapdragon 638 is a higher-clocked version of the Snapdragon 636.

Based on the older SD 636 configuration, the Snapdragon 638 SoC is expected to come equipped with two high-end Kyro CPU cores, and the remaining could be lower clocked Kyro cores or Cortex-A55 CPU cores. The chipset would also come with Adreno 509 or higher GPU. More information can be expected when Xiaomi finally unveils their “Valentino” phone.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi is set to launch another mid-range phone as part of its new Redmi S series, the Redmi S2 on May 10. The Redmi S2 will come with 5.99-inch bezel-less display and pack Snapdragon 625 chipset under the hood. The device will be available in three variants based on RAM and memory configurations: 2GB + 16GB, 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB Redmi S2 models.

The Redmi S2 is said to carry a rear dual camera setup with a 12MP + 5MP sensors and 16MP sensor on the front for selfies. Fueled by a 3000mAh battery, it will be running Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9.5 out-of-the-box. The smartphone is expected to hit Chinese and Indian markets within this month itself.
