HMD Global is Working On a Snapdragon 710-Powered Nokia Smartphone

HMD Global is said to be on working a Nokia smartphone with Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform, which was unveiled by Qualcomm very recently. According to Roland Quandt, the device is codenamed as 'Phoenix,' and could be released in the autumn/winter 2018 timeframe. Alongside this, the tipster also announced that Google's upcoming mid-range Pixel device with Snapdragon 710 SoC is codenamed as 'Bonito.' The Pixel device is said to be released early next year, but the Nokia smartphone will arrive later this year. However, it's unknown at the moment what's the device will be named as.

The smartphone could be the successor to the popular Nokia 7 Plus which was unveiled at the MWC 2018 event earlier this year. In India, the Nokia 7 Plus is the best smartphone in its price range. So it won't be a surprise if the upcoming Snapdragon 710 device belonging to the Nokia 7 family itself. Xiaomi has already released the first Snapdragon 710 device on May 31 dubbed as the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, while Vivo is expected to unveil a smartphone with the same SoC on board on June 12. The Vivo NEX smartphone is said to arrive in a Snapdragon 710 variant, other than the Snapdragon 845 variant.

HMD Global recently released the upgrades to its entry-level and budget smartphones of 2017 in the form of Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1. The Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 smartphones arrived with MediaTek processors whereas the Nokia 2.1 features the Snapdragon 425 SoC on board. Interestingly, the Nokia 5.1 arrived with the unannounced Helio P18 SoC on board.

In the coming days, HMD Global might release a flagship smartphone with Snapdragon 845 SoC in August 2019, as a successor to the Nokia 8 Sirocco. There are rumours that HMD is working on a smartphone Penta-lens camera at the rear side, which for now, have been kept aside. It's interesting to see how the company progresses in the second quarter of 2018.
