Smartron, the Indian startup company, based out of Hyderabad forayed into the market last year with the launch of Smartron t.phone but couldn’t get a good response owing to the pricing of the phone. The company garnered a good amount of attention from the masses since it’s backed by the Indian Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who is one of the investors in the enterprise.
While last year’s t.phone was miserable, the company is hoping some success with the upcoming srt.phone. And, ahead of its official launch tomorrow, Smartron srt.phone has been listed online on e-commerce portal, Flipkart, where it is expected to be sold exclusively.
The listing did not reveal the complete specifications of the phone, but some of the key specifications have been revealed. The Smartron srt.phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset, clubbed with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. The listing also claims that the chipset is 30 percent faster than the power efficient Snapdragon 625.
The device comes with 64GB of internal storage with unlimited tCloud storage which was also offered with the Smartron t.phone. The device will run Android Nougat out-of-the-box, and Smartron also promises monthly security patch updates while Flipkart promises exciting launch offers.
Besides the details mentioned above, there’s nothing known about the phone for now. The device is expected to get a 5.5-inch Full HD display, similar to its predecessor. The Smartron t.phone’s design language was unique last year, and we’re expecting the company to bring innovative design with the phone this year as well.
Finally, the most important thing with the device is its pricing. Smartron messed it up with its pricing strategy with the t.phone. The device featured Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC and was priced at Rs. 22,999. For a startup company who is trying to grab the attention of the crowd, the asking price was a bit steep. If Smartron manages to keep the phone around Rs. 10,000 or even below, it will give a huge competition to the best budget smartphones out there.
