Samsung was said to launch a new smartphone in China today and rumours hinted the device could be a stripped version of the flagship Galaxy S8. The so-called smartphone was named as the Galaxy S8 Lite, however, as per the launch invitation sent by Samsung, the device will be called as Samsung Galaxy S Light Luxury. The smartphone's name is kind of confusing, but Samsung might not launch the device in other markets with the same moniker. Also, the Luxury term could be used in the name because of the Burgundy Red colour variant. Yes, the Galaxy S Light Luxury will be available in the gorgeous Burgundy Red colour, as leaked in various renders and confirmed by Samsung in its teaser invitation.
Samsung Galaxy S Light Luxury Rumoured Specifications
Samsung will be launching the smartphone in China today, but since the last 45 days or so, leaks have been pouring in about the device, giving a hint at the specifications. The design of this upcoming device will be similar to that of the flagship Galaxy S8 including the strange fingerprint scanner placement and the awkward hardware button for Bixby. The Galaxy S Light Luxury is also rumoured to sport a 5.8-inch display, same as the Galaxy S8 but the resolution will be limited to Full HD+ and the aspect ratio will be same at 18.5:9.
Hardware wise, this smartphone is said to be arriving with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, mated with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There will be a single camera at the back, followed by a single front-facing camera. Having said that, the Galaxy S Light Luxury will not have a heart rate sensor at the rear. The single rear camera at the back is expected to carry a 16MP sensor, not the 12MP unit as seen on the Galaxy S8 because it's not meant to be a flagship smartphone. Frontal, there might be a 16MP selfie shooter as well.
According to various benchmark reports, the Galaxy S Light Luxury will have a 3000mAh battery inside and runs Android 8.0 Oreo. The launch event is scheduled to take place at Samsung's headquarters in Beijing. It's also said that the phone will be available in Black colour too, but the Burgundy Red colour option will be a go-to one for many users.
There's no word on the pricing front from Samsung or any other leaks, but being a Samsung device, it's expected to cost over Yuan 3000 in China. It's yet to be known whether Samsung is bringing the smartphone to India or not.
