Samsung Galaxy J2 Core With Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) Goes Official in India

Samsung has launched its first Android Go smartphone in India and it's the long-rumoured Samsung Galaxy J2 Core. The smartphone will be available in the sub-continent and Malaysia starting today, but Samsung is yet to reveal the price of the handset. Being an Android Go Edition smartphone, the Galaxy J2 Core runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, but Samsung has layered its own custom skin on top of it. As Android Go is aimed at, the J2 Core features modest specifications such as 1GB of RAM, qHD TFT display and a 2600mAh battery. It competes with the likes of Nokia 1, Lava Z60s which are some other Android Go devices available in the country, however, it will be interesting to see how Samsung prices the Galaxy J2 Core in India.

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core Specifications and Features

The Galaxy J2 Core sports a 5-inch TFT display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The phone measures 8.9mm in thickness and weighs 154 grams. Internally, it has the Samsung Exynos 7570 chipset, built on top of the 14nm process. It has an octa-core CPU with all the cores clocked at 1.4GHz. Graphics in the handset will be taken care by Mali-T720 MP1 GPU. The chipset comes paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card.

Aforesaid, the J2 Core runs Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) with Samsung's own custom skin on top. As for the connectivity options, the phone has 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and a Micro USB port. Samsung has also added 3.5mm headphone jack and FM Radio to the smartphone. Optics in the smartphone include an 8MP shooter on the rear with LED flash and f/2.2 aperture, along with a 5MP front-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture. This entire package comes armed with a 2600mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core Pricing and Availability

Samsung has confirmed that the J2 Core will be available across the offline store in India and Malaysia starting today. The pricing of the phone is expected to be released later today. Interested users can purchase the J2 Core in a single Gold colour option.

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core Competitors in India

The Galaxy J2 Core faces competition from the Nokia 1 and Lava Z60s smartphones in India. However, both the Nokia 1 and Z60s are priced under Rs 5,000, and surely, Samsung won't launch the J2 Core under Rs 5,000 in India. We also have the Android Go-powered Nokia 2.1 at a price of Rs 6,999 in India, which will likely compete with Galaxy J2 Core in the country. The Nokia 2.1 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC and has 1GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage.
