The Samsung Galaxy J2 (2018) is the newest entrant to the Indian market from the South Korean smartphone company. The highlight feature in the Galaxy J2 (2018) is the Samsung Mall, which the company introduced earlier this year with the mid-range Galaxy On 7 Prime smartphone. The Galaxy J2 (2018) has been in the leaks for a while now, but it's today the company decided to bring it to the Indian market. The Samsung Galaxy J2 (2018), in India, is priced at Rs 8,190, which is a lot of money for a smartphone with entry-level specs. In fact, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A offers better specs than the highly priced Galaxy J2 (2018).

This new model replaces the existing Galaxy J2 (2017), which Samsung managed to sell in millions. The J2 (2018) ups the ante in terms of specifications, but remains the same in the pricing aspect. The device rocks a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 960 × 540 pixels. The device will be available in three colour options- Gold, Black and Pink.

At the heart of the phone, there's the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, mated to 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Graphics in the smartphone will be taken care by the Adreno 308 GPU, and it even comes with a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 256GB. An 8MP camera is present at the back side of the phone along with a 5MP front-facing camera. Notably, both the cameras come with support for an LED flash.

The smartphone boots Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box and is fuelled by a 2600mAh battery. It offers 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and a micro USB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. The smartphone measures 8.4mm in thickness and weighs 153grams. It's a dual-SIM smartphone.

The Samsung Mall app on the Galaxy J2 (2018) comes with three key features- Universal Cart, One-Stop Shop and Visual Search. The specifications look good on paper, but the usage of a qHD display and limiting the sensors to accelerometer and proximity sensor is a huge letdown for the smartphone. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A and Tenor D also pack the same processor, but they're available at a very less price.
