Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 With 48MP Quad-Camera Setup, Snapdragon 665 SoC Debuts in India: Price and Specifications

Alongside the Redmi Note 8 Pro, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 also made its debut in India. To recall, the Redmi Note 8 was announced in China a few weeks ago, and it’s the same phone which reached the Indian market today. The Redmi Note 8 comes as a direct successor to the Redmi Note 7S that replaced the standard Redmi Note 7 in May this year. The smartphone boasts of a 48MP quad-camera setup, and it’s the first in the segment to feature this setup. It comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, 4000mAh battery and has fast charging support as well. The design of the smartphone is also pretty much similar to the Redmi Note 8 Pro, which starts at Rs 13,999 in the Indian market. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8: Specifications and Features

The Redmi Note 8 features Aura Fluid Design which is the same design language the company used on the Redmi 8 smartphone. The phone comes in four colour options- Neptune Blue, Moonlight White, brand new Cosmic Purple and Space Black. The Redmi Note 8 flaunts a 6.3-inch Full HD+display with 90% screen-to-body ratio and Dew Drop notch on top. The Redmi Note 8 also has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the back and front.

On the hardware side, the Redmi Note 8 is the company’ second phone to come out with Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC. To recall, the Mi A3 was the first phone to offer Snapdragon 665 chipset and the Note 8 is the second phone. For the unaware, the Snapdragon 665 SoC is a marginal upgrade over the Snapdragon 660 we got the Redmi Note 7S, and it’s built on 11nm manufacturing process. The Redmi Note 8 comes with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There’s a dedicated microSD card slot as well for storage expansion up to 512GB.

Xiaomi has highlighted the 64MP quad-camera setup on the Redmi Note 8 Pro and on the Redmi Note 8 the company talked a lot about the 48MP quad-camera setup. The 48MP sensor used on the Redmi Note 8 is the Samsung ISOCELL GM2 which is a successor the Samsung GM1 sensor we saw on the Redmi Note 7S smartphone. Other three sensors on the rear side include- 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 121-degree FoV, 2MP super macro lens and 2MP depth sensor.

Connectivity options include Dual 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and USB Type-C port. Lastly, the Redmi Note 8 has a 4000mAh battery and 18W fast charging support. Similar to the Note 8 Pro, Note 8 also ships with 18W fast charger inside the retail box.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 vs Redmi Note 7S: What Has Changed?

The Redmi Note 8 is a minor upgrade over the Redmi Note 7S. It features the latest 48MP Samsung GM2 sensor, slightly powerful Snapdragon 665 SoC and new colour options. And yes, the Note 8 now comes in a 6GB+128GB storage which we did not see on the Redmi Note 7S or the Redmi Note 7. To recall, the Redmi Note 7S featured a 48MP dual-camera setup, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC and a 4000mAh battery.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8: Pricing and Availability

Similar to the Redmi Note 8 Pro, the Redmi Note 8 comes in two variants- 4GB+64GB, priced at Rs 9,999, and the 6GB+128GB variant that will retail at Rs 12,999. The phone will be available for purchase starting October 21 at 12 PM.
