Design and Display

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 closely resembles the other Xiaomi phones, and it comes with a 5.45-inch HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. On the back side, the phone comes with a plastic casing, and there is a vertically oriented dual camera setup paired with an LED flash. Even with a taller form factor, the phone comes with bezels which might not seem that modern. The fingerprint sensor takes its place on the middle rear side.

The Realme 2 boasts of glass on both the sides. The screen on this phone measures 6.2-inch HD+ (1520 x 720 pixels), and there is also a notch, so we get to see a screen with a 19:9 aspect ratio. On the rear side, the dual camera setup takes its place on the upper left side with the fingerprint sensor in the middle. The back side of the phone comes with diamond cut design giving it a premium feel.

Hardware and Software

The Redmi 6 comes with the mid-range MediaTek Helio P22 paired with 3GB RAM. The variants are classified depending on the storage and Xiaomi offers two variants with either 32GB internal storage or 64GB internal storage. On the other hand, the Realme 2 comes with a slightly underpowered Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, and it comes in 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB variants. Both the phones come with expandable memory using microSD card.

Comparing the processor, the MediaTek Helio P22 offers slightly better performance given its architecture of 12nm die size as compared to 14nm one on the Snapdragon 450 SoC. On the software front, the Xiaomi Redmi 6 boots Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI interface while the Realme 2 comes with OPPO’s ColorOS based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The battery on the Redmi 6 which provides 3000mAh worth of power remains underpowered as compared to the 4320mAh one present on the Realme 2.

Camera and Imaging

The Realme 2 features a 13MP primary camera on the rear and comes accompanied by a 2MP secondary sensor and LED flash. As for the Redmi 6, the phone sports a 12MP camera paired with a 5MP secondary shooter and LED flash. The camera on the Realme 2 provides slightly better photography experience. The selfie camera on the Realme 2 with its 8MP shooter also stands ahead of the 5MP unit on the Redmi 6.

Verdict

Taking a bird’s eye view of both the phones, it is apparent that the Realme 2 offers a much better deal with a very similar price tag. The Xiaomi Redmi 6 retails for Rs 7,999 for the 3GB/32GB variant, whereas it retails for Rs 9,499 for the 3GB/64GB variant. The Realme 2, on the other hand, comes with a price tag of Rs 8,990 for the 3GB/32GB option, whereas it is available for Rs 10,990 for the 4GB/64GB variant.
