Realme has officially confirmed that it will not release Android 10 update to the Realme 1 and Realme 2 smartphones. Just a few days ago, Realme announced the ColorOS 7 update based on Android 10 to its smartphones and the first two phones from the company were missing from the list. The Realme 1 and Realme 2 smartphones users started questioning the company on social media, and Realme responded to these queries saying that the company will provide only one major Android update. Realme smartphones will receive one major Android iterative update and regular OTA updates up to 24 months. So the ColorOS 7 update based on Android 10 will not be available for Realme 1 and Realme 2 smartphones. The Realme 2 Pro narrowly escapes as the phone will get ColorOS 7 update in June 2020.
Realme 1 and Realme 2 Users Furious Over Company's Decision
Realme garnered popularity in quick time, thanks to some affordable and powerful smartphones taking on the counterparts from Xiaomi. The Oppo spin-off company recently revealed the ColorOS 7 update roadmap to its smartphones. As mentioned above, the list did not have the names of Realme 1 and Realme 2, which made the said smartphone owners approach the company via social media.
Replying to a Realme 1 owner on Twitter, the company tweeted "Hey, in line with our promise, we provide one major Android update and regular OTA updates up to 24 months for every Realme smartphone to make sure the devices run smoothly for 2 years. Please be informed ColorOS 7 based on Android 10 will not be rolled out for Realme 1."
Going by this tweet, we can understand two things- Realme smartphones will get only one major Android iterative update, but the company will release regular OTA updates for 24 months. The same reply is being given to Realme 2 smartphone owners as well. That said, the Realme 1 and Realme 2 smartphones will never get the Android 10 update.
Realme confirmed that the ColorOS 7 based on Android 10 would not be rolled out to the two phones, but it did not confirm whether the phones will get ColorOS 7 based on Android 9 Pie or not. For example, Xiaomi rolled out MIUI 11 to a total of 27 smartphones right now and 26 of them are running Android 9 Pie or older Android version based MIUI 11 itself. Even Xiaomi rolls out only one major iterative Android update to its smartphones, but the company makes sure its phones get MIUI iterative upgrades for a longer period. Last year, MIUI 10 update was rolled out to smartphones released way back in 2015 as well, which is an incredible thing to note.
Realme 2 Pro to Receive Android 10-Based ColorOS 7 in June 2020
The reason behind Realme 1 and Realme 2 smartphone owners questioning the company is the Realme 2 Pro. Yes, Realme's first 'Pro' smartphone is confirmed to receive the Android 10-based ColorOS 7 update in June 2020. Notably, the Realme 2 Pro was also launched with Android 8.1 Oreo on board, post which it received Android 9 Pie-based ColorOS 6 update. The scenario is pretty much similar to both the Realme 1 and Realme 2 as they were released with Android 8.1 Oreo on board. Later on, the company updated both the phones to ColorOS 6 based on Android 9 Pie.
While the Realme 2 Pro will get the ColorOS 7 update based on Android 10, the Realme 1 and Realme 2 smartphones were not included in the list. That being said, the Realme 2 Pro will get two iterative Android updates (Android 9 Pie and Android 10) which is not the company's policy.
It will be really interesting to see how Realme responds to this issue. We're expecting the brand to release ColorOS 7 update based on Android 9 Pie to both the Realme 1 and Realme 2 phones, but an official confirmation is awaited.
