In a significant boost to India's 5G infrastructure, the number of 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) increased in August 2024. According to the latest data from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), a total of 1,739 new 5g BTS stations were deployed across the country, enhancing connectivity and network coverage.

Top States with the Most 5G BTS Additions
This deployment reflects the ongoing expansion of 5G networks, with notable contributions from several states. Uttar Pradesh led the deployments, adding 246 new BTS stations during the month. While, Haryana saw a significant increase of 179 BTS stations, Gujarat followed with 162 new stations. Maharashtra added 114 new stations to its network. West Bengal also contributed significantly with 148 new BTS stations.

States with No Change
In contrast, Kerala experienced a slight decrease of one BTS station, while states such as Andaman and Nicobar, Ladakh, and Lakshadweep (UT) reported no changes in their BTS numbers. Additionally, Puducherry (UT) and Nagaland maintained their previous counts.

The overall number of BTS stations in India now stands at 453,794 as of August 31, 2024, marking steady progress in the nation’s 5G rollout. Currently, Airtel and Jio are providing 5G services on a complimentary basis. We will update you here when Vodafone Idea makes an official announcement. Government-owned BSNL is in the indigenous 4G rollout phase while simultaneously testing 5G technology.
