Chinese brand Oppo has announced a new smartphone aimed at the budget category. The Oppo A83 is the latest entrant to the Indian market, and it brings all the exclusive features of the company's flagship device, the Oppo F5 to budget price range. Priced at Rs 13,990, the Oppo A83 offers a 13MP selfie camera along with AI-backed beauty mode called Smart Selfie. The phone will be made available in two colour options- Black and Champagne Gold and will be up for sale starting January 20, 2018, via both offline and online channels.

The Oppo A83's highlights include the 18:9 display on the front, 13MP selfie camera backed by AI, and the price tag from Oppo. The handset offers a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. It is powered by the MediaTek MT6763T chipset, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The storage can be expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card. Sadly, it's a hybrid card slot setup, and not a dedicated microSD card setup.

A massive letdown of the Oppo A83 is the lack of fingerprint scanner. Yes, Oppo has followed Apple's footsteps and ditched the fingerprint scanner, in favour of the much-hyped Face Unlock feature.

“Our focus has always been on bringing best photography and Selfie experience to the Indian consumers. We have received an immense response for our Selfie Expert A Series and F Series. With the A83 we wish to bring an affordable selfie camera with advanced features such as the HD + Full-Screen Display and AI Beauty Technology. The A83 truly represents our ambition to continue being the Selfie Expert and Leader in the market" said Will Yang, Brand Director, Oppo India.

The smartphone rocks an 8MP selfie camera which also has a beauty mode dubbed as Smart Selfie. Oppo says that the Face Unlock feature can unlock the device in just 0.18 seconds. At the back of the phone, we have a 13MP camera with support for an LED flash. The device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat based ColorOS 3.2, and this entire package backed by a 3090mAh battery. Connectivity options in the smartphone include a dual-SIM, 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, and a micro USB port for data transfer and charging.
