OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro Start Receiving Android Q Second Developer Preview Update

One of the much-awaited releases of this year when it comes to software is Google’s Android Q. However, the stable version of the OS cannot be launched to the public unless there is enough beta testing. To do that, Google partners up with a lot of device manufacturers to push multiple version of its latest Android OS Beta build along with Developers Previews. OnePlus is one such company which has been vigilant when it comes to new updates. We have already seen OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro receive the Developers Preview update of the Android Q, but now, the manufacturer is starting to push the Android Q Developers Preview 2 to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro users.

Android Q Developers Build 2 for OnePlus Phones

It was last month when OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro received the first developer preview of Android Q, and even the latest stable update for the OnePlus flagship phone came with the security update of last month. However, a new software update for the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro has been in the making since then, albeit it has taken almost a month for OnePlus to develop.

It is worth noting that the developers’ previews are precisely meant for the purpose which their name signifies. Unlike beta updates which can be installed by novice users for giving inputs to the company and to experience latest features, the developer previews of Android are a step-up from beta builds as they come with a lot of other quirks making them slightly unfit for use by the average public. However, for the developers of Android, these builds can be considered a boon as they help them develop new applications in accordance with Android’s latest OS thus allowing them to test their apps, new features and functionalities.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Updating to Developers Preview

On these lines, OnePlus has reminded its OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro users that the developers' preview is “best suited for developers and early adopters”. Even though this build is not the first one of Android Q’s developer previews, there is the risk of bricking your phone and hence, the users have been issued a warning regarding the same. In case you are not an Android developer and you think that you might have trouble migrating around the technical jargon, then we suggest that you better wait a little bit before upgrading to Android Q.

There is also a list of current issues with the Android Q Developer Preview 2 and these include a non-working Reading Mode, Display Mode not working, a broken verification window for WiFi anonymous connections, and some stability related issues. In case you want to continue with the update anyway, then you will be able to test out this new software on OnePlus’ latest smartphones using the local upgrade method within OxygenOS. You should also keep in mind that unless you are not upgrading from the first Developers Preview, then you will lose all your data.
